I was a young and naive FA waiting on the pier at 32nd St Naval Station SD to report aboard as OakHill returned from WestPac in spring of 1961. I was an SK3 whe  I left the ship by landing craft that put me and my seabag on the beach so that could walk across the highway to the Coronado Amphib Base and report for SEAR school on my way to NavSupAct Saigon. A place I'd never heard of before that Monday morning that I received orders and left the ship.

I served on the Oakhill from August 51 to October 54 and left as RM1. I have attended all of the reunions and they are a great time. It's been wonderful to meet all the guys who served on our ship even though I didn't know them before. You all should try to make it to Portland this year.
